In the current wave of globalization, professional translators and interpreters play a crucial role in linguistic and cross-cultural communication between different language speakers with different cultural backgrounds. Trainee translators need to be equipped not only with excellent language competence and cultural communication skills but a wide range of knowledge in professional fields. They are the knowledge workers of the newly emerging "knowledge industry".

The Department of Translation & Interpreting at Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages is the cradle for professional translators and interpreters. It offers dynamic programs in professional translator and interpreter training, covering translation and interpreting in commercial, technical, legal, diplomatic, tourism, news media, audiovisual and publishing fields. Our students will learn how to use the leading-edge IT and interpreting hardware (as sophisticated as equipment used in the UN and the EU) and computer-aided translation software (such as TRADOS) required by the translation industry.

Professional translation and interpreting is very challenging, yet also very rewarding. I hope that our students will work very hard and make steady progress on the pathway to becoming professional translation and interpreting practitioners. I am sure that you will be trained the most successful performers in professional translation and interpreting by our hard-working teaching staff.
